As I have said before, I consider myself lucky to live here in Detroit. We have a great DIY scene here, and people are really into building a community to share their art. There are a TON of festivals and craft shows year round, marketed to everyone from the hipsters to your mama's mama.
We are also super lucky to have the Detroit Maker Faire in July. The 2nd annual event was one of the shows that I made sure was on my calendar the day it was announced. This year we decided to go on Saturday, July 30th and spend the day inside the Henry Ford Museum at the craft city part of the faire rather than try to do the whole festival like we did last year. Besides it was so hot, I literally would have melted if I had tried to spend more than an hour outside.
We happily walked around, chatted with our friends who were vendors, and shopped our little hearts out {post about what we bought is coming soon, of course}. I took some pics of my favorites {over a hundred actually} and somehow have to pick just a few to share here. I will be posting more pics here tomorrow. The rest I will post on
my facebook page if you want to check em out.
 |
| Shoppers going nuts over the cool stuff my friends make! Dig the atmosphere? |
 |
| Blackened Ruby, a family favorite. Super excited to see unicorns and owls added to her line of edgy and fun cameo jewelry. |
 |
| I am headed over to Etsy to place my custom order with Color Me Punk. These ghosts are just tooo cute. She can make them in what ever color you like. AND she is a sweetheart. |
 |
| Courtney Fischer's jewelry is so pretty. Love these cuffs! She also makes gorgeous necklaces. |
 |
| Marcy Davy, I LOVE your prints. The girl makes me wish I had more wallspace. |
 |
| Some vintage love from Dang Argyle. I gotta share a pic of what I bought from her once I frame it. |
 |
| The whole dang place smelled amazing thanks to Aromaholic. Seriously delicious soaps based on popular alcoholic beverages. |
 |
| ReZip It won the Editor's Choice Award. And we got one of her cool blingy bracelets {pic coming soon}. |
 |
| Aisle 3 makes the coolest stuff, all upcycled! Order a custom item made from your very own vintage tie collection! |
....to be continued....Come back tomorrow for PART TWO!!!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Henry Ford Museum! What a great place for a craft show!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, yes, I heard! how did that go? I am glad I went on Saturday, as my photos from inside {etsy tables, etc...} all turned out awful due to the lighting in there. So I am glad I got photos of everyone in the hallways. :)
ReplyDeleteBeasKnees, me too! we are members there and we go a lot. My kids love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Looking forward to the rest. Thanks for featuring dang argyle :) And glad to hear you're digging your crafter card!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was awesome. Wish I hadn't missed it. Thanks for blogging about it.

You're making me kinda miss doing shows, especially the opportunity to meet and talk with customers, browsers, and other artists.
ReplyDeleteI love shows. I have a great time, every show I do I make more friends in my area.
