Handmade Gifts: The Empty Nest

One of the sweetest crafters we've had the good fortune to meet is The Empty Nest. She creates beautiful aprons and other wearable fiber art.

Feast your eyes on this beaut:

When I asked The Empty Nest about her unique "shabby chic" country inspired style, she answered:

"My name is Janet and I am the one woman show behind The Empty Nest, so named because my two wonderful guys have grown and left home. I have been painting since 1987 and playing with yarn all my life. A few years ago I rediscovered my sewing machine and have been a fabric nut ever since. I am lucky to have a fabulous designer fabric shop 'Fabric Emporium' just 5 minutes away, in Warrenton ,Va. They keep me blissfully happy with lovely remnant pieces of otherwise unaffordable fabric. All my treasures are created in a pet free and smoke free studio. I hope you enjoy my shop and please keep in mind many of my creations are unique and one of kind (I do not have the patience to mass produce)."

The Empty Nest not having the patience for anything is almost unthinkable, she really is a doll. Even as we were asking about her, she kept crowing about others. When I mentioned her fantastic attitude, her response was:

"Remember to be a little extra nice to people you meet...you never know what their life story may be and your niceness just may be the highlight of their day. I am a big believer in the 'Pay it Forward' way of living your life."

Keep life's little treasures in this travel bag:

You can find The Empty Nest on Etsy, and at her own blog.
